Foodbank

Our foodbank outlet opens on Tuesdays from 10:00am - 12:00pm. You will be greeted by a friendly team of volunteers who are happy to help you with your food parcel and any other advice you may need.

We run our foodbank outlet in partnership with North Bristol and South Glos Foodbank. For more information, please visit their website here.

How to get here?

Our address is:

St Mary's and James Church, Gainsborough Square, Lockleaze, BS7 9AP.

If driving, you can park either on Gainsborough Square or on the residential streets around without parking restrictions.

If you are using public transport, bus routes 24, 72, and 73, stop at Gainsborough Square (Stop B).

Step 1 - Choose a referral agency

Contact a front-line professional support service in your area. They will assess your situation and determine if you are eligible for an emergency food parcel.

If you are in need, we recommend North Bristol Advice Centre (0117 951 5751) as it is also located on Gainsborough Square.

Here are suggestions of other agencies you can call:

Citizens Advice (Bristol Only): 0808 278 7957

Citizens Advice (South Glos only): 0808 278 7947

Local Crisis and Prevention Fund (Bristol only): 0117 922 4500

South Glos One Stop Shops (South Glos only): 01454 868 009

Help Through Hardship: 0808 208 2138

Step 2 - Call or visit the referral agency

They will discuss your situation and supply you with a foodbank voucher where appropriate.

We cannot guarantee this, but if you visit the North Bristol Advice Centre, they may be able to issue you with a voucher on the same day. You may then come to our outlet to receive your parcel.

This is not guaranteed and it is not guaranteed that we will have enough food.

Step 3 - Bring your food bank voucher to your nearest food bank centre

You can find a list of our local centres and opening times here.

When you arrive, we’ll welcome you with a warm drink and our trained volunteers will chat with you about your situation. We’ll also discuss any dietary needs you may have and exchange your food bank voucher for a parcel of three days of emergency food. We’ll also help to support you in any other ways that we can.

Most of our food bank centres offer a café style environment and our aim is to provide non-judgemental support at the point of crisis.

In need of a food parcel?

To collect an emergency food parcel from our outlet, you must have a foodbank voucher. Follow the steps below to see if you are eligible.

The above information is takes from the North Bristol and South Glos Foodbank website.

Ways to Support

Read below to see the different ways you can support our foodbank.

Volunteering

If you are interested in volunteering, contact Rob to chat through whether it would be right for you. This would involve: receiving deliveries, making teas and coffees, packing food parcels and welcoming guests into our church. Volunteering is subject to a completed DBS and other background checks.

Donations

We are very grateful for any contributions towards this vital work.

If you wish to give food items, check out the donate food page to find out where you can drop off donations (nearest is either Ebenezer church or Tesco Express on Filton Avenue or Boston Tea Party in Cheswick Village) and what items are most urgently needed in the warehouse.

If you would rather give monetarily, visit the donate money page and give through there.
